Name: Steve Kramer
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Started bike commuting: This year
Commute distance (one way): 7 miles
Describe your commute: Suburban with approximately half multi-use path and the rest relatively quiet two lane roads with adequate bike lanes. Not much in the way of hills and a relaxing ride all around.
Describe your bike and accessories: Rans V-Rex that I’ve been riding for years. Shimano 105 Triple Crank, Alexrims DA16 rims, Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires, Deore hubs, SRAM Speeddial 7 brakes, SRAM 9.0 shifters, Topeak Aero Wedge, Camelbak Lobo Hydration pack, MARS 3.0 rear flasher. Soon to be adding a Rans HT Rear rack, Wald folding baskets with liners for more carrying capacity, front light and a bell.
What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Resist the urge to ride like you’re racing. Find a comfortable pace and enjoy the ride, see what you’ve been missing commuting by car. You can use your weekend ride to bring out the racer within. Ride a bike YOU like to ride, not what someone else thinks you should ride.
