Bicycle Commuter Profile: Charlie Lawrence

Bicycle Commuter Profile

Name: Charlie Lawrence
Location: Winston-Salem, NC USA
Started bike commuting: April 2010
Commute distance (one way): 10 miles

Describe your commute: My commute is on two way streets with no bike lanes. Most of the way there is a center turn lane that makes the roads easy for traffic to pass. On my way home in the winter time it is in complete darkness, so I take a little safer route that is about 14 miles long.

Describe your bike and accessories: I have added fenders, front and rear racks, a Brooks B-17 saddle, panniers, rear lights and head lights, and also 2.1 inch Continental Town and Country tires to my Surly Long Haul Trucker. Next addition will be a dynamo front hub and head light.

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Use two rear blinking lights and a small flashing front light to help being seen.
