Bicycle Commuter Profile: Dustin Guy

Name: Dustin Guy
Location: Seattle, WA
Started bike commuting: 1992
Commute distance (one way): 7 miles

Describe your commute: My commute begins in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle. It follows a series of streets with nice bike lanes (though they could use some repaving). I eventually link up with the Burke-Gilman trail (paved trail that connects many parts of north Seattle) and it comes within a half mile of where I work.

Describe your bike and accessories: I ride a Jamis Aurora with a steel frame and full fenders. I have a bright Niterider headlight, a rear Cateye light, and wireless bike computer. With the changeable Seattle weather, I have bike clothing for most occasions (most importantly the rain!).

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Get a dependable well-made bike (preferably from a local bike shop), find a route you’re comfortable with, and keep riding as much as possible. You’ll enjoy the sights and sounds around you that would be otherwise impossible in a car. Your body and your wallet will thank you.
