Bicycle Commuter Profile: Michel Poirier

Name: Michel Poirier
Location: Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
Started bike commuting: Many years ago (at childhood…)
Commute distance (one way): Currently, 10km

Describe your commute: It’s a mix of historic residential streets, river side pathway and old railroad pathway during the summer months and local roads during winther months when there’s too much snow accumulating on the pathway system. The 10km distance is perfect, not too long but good enough to clear my mind before getting back at home.

Describe your bike and accessories: Older MTB with slick tires. One saddle for work cloth and lunch. I wear a brigh yellow jacket or jersey so I’m visible when sharing the road with cars.

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: There’s not bad weather, just bad clothing.

Have dedicated bag and clothing for cycling so they alwayse are on hand in the morning. Once you have a routine establish, it’s always faster commuting by bike than driving. With time and experience, you will know exactly how to dress so you are not too hot or cold. Just do it…
