Bicycle Commuter Profile: Bill Beck

Bicycle Commuter Profile

Name: Bill Beck
Location: The Palouse, Idaho / Washington border, USA
Started bike commuting: Spring 2008
Commute distance (one way): 10 miles to work (I often ride 19 miles home)

Describe your commute: My commute is mostly on rural gravel roads, often in bad weather with multiple big hills. I rarely have to share the road with cars. The long way home includes 9 miles of paved bike path. Everyday, at least once during my commute, I am struck by something beautiful about my surroundings. I spontaneously smile and think to myself, this is nice. Being out under open sky, exposed to the weather, working hard and breathing deeply is good for mind, body and spirit.

Describe your bike and accessories: My bike is a Lightfoot Ranger with an EcoSpeed 750 watt mid drive electric assist, EcoSpeed Velociraptor controller and a 36V 25 AH LIFEPO4 Ping battery. It is a comfortable, fun, reliable and very fast gravel road commuter.

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Doing it feels better than thinking about it.
