Bicycle Commuter Profile

Name: Norm
Location: Royston BC Canada
Started bike commuting: Intermittently for 20 years, every day for 2 years
Commute distance (one way): 2 part time jobs, one commute 4 km, the other 6 km.

Describe your commute: Rural road with about a four foot wide shoulder. One commute has a short bridge with no shoulder so I have to wait for no traffic coming from behind as the traffic will overtake me even with cars coming the other way making it too tight for my safety. My other commute has about 2 km. of quiet small city riding.

Describe your bike and accessories: Easy Racer Gold Rush Replica with fairing and body sock. Underseat panniers. This bike with the fairing keeps me quite dry on these short commutes. Also I keep quite warm with out too much layers. I have just purchased a new Optima Baron low racer and I am fine tuning the carriers that I will use. This is for drier days.

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: I use the bikes that I recreationally ride for my commutes. These bikes also get used for some shopping and socializing. I ride recumbents for comfort and know that if I was forced to ride up rights there would be no cycling in my life. I recently had to ride an up right in Cuba and suffered as a result.
