Bicycle Commuter Profile: Jeff Lock

Name: Jeff Lock
Location: Port Lincoln South Australia
Started bike commuting: 2006 when we shifted closer to work swapped a 700 km a week of driving to 100km of riding.
Commute distance (one way): 7 km
Describe your commute: Starts of up a couple of small hills out to the edge of the town limits. Then its a undulating ride along the sealed shouder of the main highway with a 110 kmh limit for about 5 km to my place of work. Riding home is substantially more uphill than going to work. The benifit of my commute that after work I can ride home the long way home on a variety of very scenic routes. I love this fact when the weather is nice.
Describe your bike and accessories: Trek MTB converted to slicks with mudguards and panniers. Home made 12v lighting set up.
What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Take your time. Carry your wet weather gear unless you are absolutely certain of the weather. Try to stop smiling before you walk into work or else they think you are nuts.

Jeff, that’s a beautiful photo…what a great scenery. I also had a Trek MTB; now someone else enjoys it along with my cable lock. Do you have enough heel clearance there? The chainstays were a bit short for I.
