Bicycle Commuter Profile: Lisa

Bicycle Commuter Profile

Name: Lisa
Location: Washington, DC
Started bike commuting: 2007
Commute distance (one way): 9 miles

Describe your commute: Partly on the road, some with bike lanes and some without, and partly on a paved trail. Hilly in some parts. I usually see a few riders when I’m riding.

Describe your bike and accessories: A Specialized Tricross Sport (triple gear), Terry Butterfly seat, Shimano A530 dual platform/clip pedals. TransIt rear rack and Ortlieb Front Roller Panniers, used in the back instead of the front because my bike is small.

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Map out your ride before trying it out– walk or drive it first and note what the traffic is like. Allow yourself plenty of time when you first start, and don’t rush. Obey the traffic lights and signs. Ride confidently and with awareness.
