Bicycle Commuter Profile: Matt Krofcheck

Name: Matt Krofcheck
Location: Lancaster, PA, USA
Started bike commuting: 2010
Commute distance (one way): 14-16 depending on route.

Describe your commute: From my front door in the city, two towns over to New Holland PA, on both the major road rt23 and various back roads. Unfortunately it is an entirely paved route, i’d really love to have a section of RailTrail or fireroads…

Only a few mild climbs, relatively all gently uphill on the ride there, and mostly downhill on the way home.

Describe your bike and accessories: 2011 Raleigh RX1.0 Cyclocross
Mavic Aksium wheelset
Vittorria Randoneer 700x32c (soon to be replaced with 32c Gatorskins)
Mission Workshop Randal Backpack, Eastpack clothing folders
NiteRider MiNewt USB 150w headlamp, random rear blinky
SKS 40mm full fenders

What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Do it! I commited to commuting on a week of utter rainy ugliness, and stuck to it. Every day since that week has been easier and easier. I average about 20.5 mph on the way home, and it gets easier and easier. Its the easiest way for me to clock 75 miles a week before the weekend rides even arrive.
