Location: Melbourne, Australia
Started bike commuting: 2011
Commute distance (one way): 16.5km
Describe your commute: My commute takes me along some streets, but through major parks and wetland areas too. I get to hear a variety of bird and frog calls as part of my ride, which always brings a smile to my face. I also cycle past a lake, which is amazing when there is a light mist. Watching the ducks land on it is just a gorgeous sight.
Describe your bike and accessories: At the moment I ride an Apollo Easytrail. It has a rear rack and mudguard. I have panniers on the back and a basket on the front.
What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Don’t be too daunted by distance. It’s not like being in a car or on a bus for an hour, because you get to experience a lot more of your world than in closed-off transport. Also, don’t worry too much about weather. You get quite warm, and it’s not hard to stay dry.
