Bicycle Commuter Profile: Meg Barry

Name: Meg Barry
Location: Washington, DC
Started bike commuting: April, 2010
Commute distance (one way): 3.5 miles
Describe your commute: My ride into work is mostly downhill on pleasant city streets, some with bike lanes, others without. I have lots of choices for relatively calm roads, and rarely have to ride on very busy streets. My usual ride home takes me past the White House on my way to DC’s new protected cycle track, a fantastic addition to our cycling infrastructure.
Describe your bike and accessories: I ride an unmodified Workcycles Oma. I have two accessories: a public bikes rear basket, and a coffee cup holder.
What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: Don’t force it. Ride if you want to, don’t if you’re not feeling it. Walk up hills if it makes you happier. Jump off your bike and walk it along the sidewalk if you get nervous.
