Bicycle Commuter Profile: Todd Consentino

Name: Todd Consentino
Location: Boston, MA, USA
Started bike commuting: May 2002
Commute distance: 13 miles
Describe your commute: I begin near the Blue Hills passing through cemeteries and on highways (Cummins & American Legion) as I make my way to Boston’s Emerald Necklace, which is a linear park with bike facilities designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. From the Necklace, I pedal to the Charles River Bike Path, over the Anderson Memorial Bridge into Cambridge, past the mansions on Mt. Auburn and Brattle streets on the way to Belmont, MA. It’s a great ride. I’ve a few different routes to mix it up, keep it interesting, and avoid headwinds if necessary.
Describe your bike and accessories:
- 2010 Surly LHT 56
- Brooks Honey B17 Special
- Nitto Noodles 46
- Dinotte Lights
- Paul’s Touring Cantis
- Surly Nice Rack up front
- Tubus Cargo in back
- SKS P50 fenders w/VO mud flap
- ESGE dual leg kick stand
- Continental Sport Contact tires 700×37
What bit of advice would you like to share with new bike commuters?: When in doubt, take the lane.
