Isn’t it strange that people who go on adventures always make their adventures sound cool? There is probably a lesson in there, somewhere.
As a person who’s wanderlust has been repressed by children, a career, and credit card debt I can only tip my hat to those willing and able to venture out of their front doors… (bonus points for those who get the reference)
“Isn’t it strange that people who go on adventures always make their adventures sound cool?”
I’d consider that more normal human behavior, wouldn’t you? Isn’t that what adventures are about?
Also, what is your obscure referent to? I don’t get it..
This looks like a very interesting exhibit and well done!
Perhaps I’m just showing off my incredible dorktitude. I have an annoying habit of remembering lines from books I’ve read years ago and then recalling them into conversation as if everyone was thinking the same thing. Sorry about that.
The reference is to the Lord of the Rings story, and the quote was Bilbo Baggins’, “It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.”
Sounds like fun!
Matt, your dorktitude is impressive!
At the same time, I would say that children and a career can be an adventure in and of themselves. A quote that has stuck with me regarding adventures:
“An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.”
G. K. Chesterton
But back to the topic at hand, I’d love to see the exhibit, it looks pretty interesting.
Thanks for the Bilbo quote, Matt. Made me smile… :-)
The road goes ever on . Sounds interesting .
“Isn’t it strange that people who go on adventures always make their adventures sound cool? ” Really ? I just go on bicycle trips . Then I tell my friends what I did and they tell me what an adventure it was . ? ? ? ? ? I tell them it was just a long bike trip . It was fun/interesting , boring , hot or cold , rainy or dry . My friends ask about the parts ” They ” think are cool and I think that’s why ” adventures ” are cool . Just random thoughts .
All dorky references aside, this sounds like a really cool project. I’m envious.
