Girl Meets Bike: Jacquie Phelan
We’ve been fans of Jacquie Phelan for what seems like just about forever. She pioneered the sport of women’s mountain biking and dominated the sport in the 1980′s and into the 90′s. Prior to taking up racing, she was a bike commuter and advocate. She still rides her lovely old Cunningham with the WOMBATS (Women’s Mountain Bike & Tea Society – a club she formed in Marin County in 1984) and teaches riding skills clinics. She’s done a lot for sport, but she’s also done a lot for bicycling in general.

What a phenomenal person! Thanks, Alan!
Jacquie’s a nut, truly, but she’s always out and about on her bike. It always brings a smile to my face to run into her which has been pretty frequent lately. She never remembers me, though..
