    Thank God he wasn’t on a bike route.

    I’m surprised he wasn’t also watching a video on a portable DVD player, sheesh…

    @bongobike

    I know! It would be funny if it wasn’t so not-funny.

    Just because you’ve never been in a crash doesn’t mean you’re a safe driver! That man needs his license revoked. He’s obviously not capable of understanding how serious driving is.

    Terrifying!

    Alan,
    the guys who were filming him apparently found it really funny. It seems they were almost as distracted as the “multi media guy”. :)

    With practice, you don’t need to look into the car to know someone’s driving distracted. Weaving in the lane, not maintaining speed. Slowing, then accellerating. These are all signs that the driver is either distracted or intoxicated (which end up being the same thing, just from different causes). As a motorcycle rider in Northern California, I see it all the time. Avoid like the plague.

    Sadly, our society prizes multitasking efficiency over safety. That’s why you see such vitriol when a drunk driver causes an accident and not when a multitasker does the same. We’ve put getting stuff done above travelling safely. Sad..
