We ride because life is so noisy and complicated. Every day, a hundred things want our attention: competing commitments, work and school, traffic and technology.
On bikes, life is quieter. For an evening, or a day, or a weekend, we can leave those hundred complicated, noisy things behind. For awhile, we pay closer attention to simpler, more important things. We listen to the sound of slim tires on pavement or leaves, to the wind in the woods, and to each other.
We ride bikes together because, in the quiet of riding, we can hear the sound of our family.
