Why do I ride? I live in rural Iowa, what else is there to do?

I ride because it slows life down in a point and click world. It’s the same feeling your dog gets when he slips out of the fence. You don’t know what you will find, but you know it’s gonna be great.

Switzerland in general and Zurich in particular have fantastic bicycle infrastructure. I ride to work most days, 10 miles up a ridge until the wanderweg begins as a double lane of smooth gravel through fields, past churches, schools, and community gardens. I ride for reasons intellectual and spiritual, but the physical, visceral experience of rolling out onto these trails free of cars with views of the snowclad Alps is the purest reason why I ride.

Why I ride: Because the simplicity of cycling to the places you need to go will instantly put a smile on your face.
