I commute from Playa Del Rey to Santa Monica for college everyday, and its always the best 30 minutes. I ride because my bike is way nicer than my truck! Plus when it rains I look smart for having fenders in LA, and I get the bike path all to myself.

I really like that front rack. Is it a standard rack that can be added to any bike, or did it come with the bike and was designed for the bike? Also that rear seat bag looks interesting what is it?

Mowestusa, if i’m not mistaken that is a Velo-OrangePortuer rack. I have one myself. The rack itself comes in one size, so it is in that way “standard”. But there are adjustable mounting options for different bikes. I had to bend one of the metal fittings in order for it to work with my Long Haul. I’d say that the only thing you really need to add this rack to your bike are front eyelets (little holes for mounting accessories located above your skewers on your front fork) as well as a hole for mounting cantilever brakes on the fork. And of course, a little bit of patience in figuring out the right way to mount it for your bike.

By the way, thats a great picture. I’m glad to see a Bianchi ridden in Los Angeles with so much class. I’m tired of fixed gear hipster bianchis. Lovely bike

Yeah it is a Velo rack, I love it. The bag is one that I picked up from the Linus store in Venice, only $30 and it fits my tools, pump, tube, and seat cover in it. Thanks for the compliments, I just had my surly stolen from my garage so I built this as its replacement. Used the San Jose frame with the Alfine 8 speed and generator up front. Most of the other parts are off the Velo-Orange website. I put an aged Brooks B-67 saddle and brooks leather ring grips. Overall I love it and the hub keeps it simple and classic looking.

Sorry about the Surly, I hope mine never gets stolen. *knock on steel*
I forgot to mention how clean your set up looks! Happy Riding!

And watch Ballona Creek Path at night, I ran into some hoodlums the other day.
