Kim Schmidt’s Photo Contest Entry
Why do I ride? In part, because of unique and wonderful opportunities like these! This is the ferry from Seattle arriving at Bainbridge Island, Washington, exclusively taken over by participants coming for the 33 mile “Chilly Hilly” bike ride around the island. Not only does this photograph exemplify that certain camaraderie and brotherhood among bicyclists, but also proves that we can experience mass transit … “en masse”. No cars here! What a wonderful way to get exercise, experience something truly unique, and leave a very limited carbon footprint in doing so.

This is an amazing photo! I love the combination of the cool colors of the water and the boat framing in the bright speckles of cyclists. This photo conjures up thoughts of cyclists as a gathering force coming together in unexpected ways.
AMAZING photo!

This is pretty awesome. I wish I could participate in something like this.
Love this! this is the way all of our ferries in the Pacific Northwest should look (grin)…
That’s great the way it’s framed. Curious how you were able to get this shot? It looks like you could be hovering from a helicopter. I would guess you weren’t, but that’s what it looks like.
What a great photo!
AWESOME!
