The attached photo, made by my wife, Yasmin, shows me and my son (at age 2 1/2) riding on my aging Novara Expresso hybrid. Leeam loves to ride with me, even if it’s just a short ride to our favorite branch library in Oakland, Calif.

Behind us you can see one of the 100-year-old houses that fill our North Oakland neighborhood. These days Leeam, now 6, rides a Burley trailercycle hitched to my bicycle, but soon we’ll be getting him on his own small bicycle. I hope to continue riding with him long into the future.
