Brian Buckner’s Photo Contest Entry

Why do I ride? Why do I tow a twenty-pound trailer and add 32 pounds of wiggling preschooler? Why ride when driving would be faster and safer? Why ride when driving would be cooler in the summer, warmer and drier in spring and fall? Why spend an hour doing something that only takes 30 minutes by car?

The answer is always the same. I ride to stay healthy and strong, to keep up with my little girl. I ride so she grows up knowing bikes are transportation, not toys. I ride so she knows exercise is part of life and bad weather isn’t anything a change of clothes can’t deal with. I ride so she knows it’s silly to drive to the corner store when it’s only a mile away. I ride because a bad day on the bike is better than any day behind the wheel.
