Nathan McNeill’s Photo Contest Entry
I pulled over to the side of the road today and snapped this photo with my iPhone. It’s a Friday afternoon in a university town and the day before a football game. The motor vehicle traffic is backed up all the way across town. But I have dedicated bicycle lanes for my entire five mile commute. This is why I commute.
Thanks for the great blog. I read it every day because the beautiful photos of bicycles keep me inspired to keep on riding.

Oh man… scenes like this are a ringing endorsement for more bikes/less cars. You must feel like superman in your personal diamond lane passing 100 cars.
Yes  this is the best picture so far!
It looks like my commute home. Cars backed up, and I’m passing them in the bike lane.
Not why I ride my bike, but a nice bonus.
I like this photo. While there have been some really fantastic photos submitted, this one really brings it home.
Moments like this almost…almost make up for all the haggling I get from motorists.
Like the other night when somebody yelled the f bomb at us while riding to get ice cream. Luckily my 6 and 4 year olds didn’t understand.
Love it. We have a group here in SM that has splintered off from Critical Mass. When they ride through traffic like this they where signs that read, “If you were on a bike, you’d be home by now!” haha, this reminds me of that. And when I ride through traffic like this, I feel like I won the lottery.
Unbelievable, that the motorists don´t get it! On the oter hand: that´s why they hate cyclists, it´s a mixture of envy and fury, because they are causing congestion, cyclists are passing them.
