Alan,
Are you able/allowed to take your bike on the train or do you leave it at the station? In the Chicagoland area, the Metra train system only allows bikes on the trains during off peak hours. Peak hours are something like 4-hour windows in the morning and then in the afternoon/evening. Thus I need to keep bikes on both ends of my train commute.
Bikes are always allowed on my Amtrak commuter route and a least a few of the cars have bike racks. I don’t often need to take the bike with me, so it usually stays in a bike locker, but it’s really nice to have the option.

Alan, you travel around in a boxcar? And I didn’t think there were any hobos left..
:)
That’s me, ol’ Boxcar Alan… :-)
