My Dutch Bike

We’re pleased to welcome our latest sponsor, San Francisco’s My Dutch Bike. My Dutch Bike is an importer and retailer of quality handmade Dutch city bikes, cargo bikes, and transport bikes from the bicycle capital of the world, Amsterdam. More from their website:

For years we’ve wanted to bring the Bakfiets, Omafiets and other Dutch bicycles to California because we just couldn’t find a practical bike locally that allowed us to transport us and our son safely and comfortably. After much research we found that WorkCycles in Amsterdam could provide us with the best possible product. WorkCycles is the specialist in quality utility bicycles for commercial, family and personal use. They develop their own models and also sell bikes from Azor, Bakfiets.nl, De Redding, Monark, Nijland, Onderwater and others. The bicycles are known for their timeless design, top quality and attention to detail. Whether you need a bike to safely carry your children, a classic Dutch city bike or a tough industrial bike we’ve got it. If you require something that’s not on our website but you see it on www.workcycles.com feel free to let us know and we can special order it for you.

Our Philosophy
Cycling is good for the air we breathe and great for our bodies. We hope we can inspire you to leave your car at home just a little more often, take your bike to work, school, stores or just a Sunday ride. With our bikes you don’t require a wardrobe overhaul. We embrace a philosophy of functionality and practicality. With our passion for design, every part of the bike looks and feels like it was meant to be there.

My Dutch Bike ships bikes all over the world. Their bikes arrive at your doorstep fully assembled, tuned, and ready to ride. They also make free deliveries within a 20 mile radius of San Francisco and make longer deliveries for a modest fee.

If you’d like to learn more about My Dutch Bike’s wonderful selection of Dutch bicycles, give them a call to chat and/or check out their excellent website. And if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area be sure to drop in to say hello and take a test ride.

I noticed the ad the other day and spent some time at My Dutch Bike’s site and loved it. These are the bikes that will change riding in the US from sport/recreation to transportation/utility. My recent addition of a trailer has changed the way I think about using my bike. I can now simply throw all my clothes and change-at-work junk into the trailer and go. Pre-trailer days would often end in ditching the bike for the car just to end the seemingly endless and always frustrating process of determining what goes and what stays. I can see me riding a gorgeous Bakfiets. Thanks My Dutch Bikes foor sponsoring the best blog on the web. I am saving my Ben Franklins!

I like the bikes that have trailers. I especially like the ones like the European bikes that have them in the front. I teach ceramics and have to haul a load of 1/2 up to 1 ton of clay. I am not Arnold enough to “load” up my bike with clay and haul it 20 miles back to my class room. Therefore, I still need to use the four wheeler. I hope more Americans start utilizing the Dutch bikes and start letting the cars sit a few miles a week.

We can only hope and promote a two wheel philosophy.

I was walking to my dentist about a month ago and just about tripped over my excitement when I saw this bike shop in an old storefront downtown. The Retrovelo bikes in the window were absolutely beautiful. Drool. They just expanded their open-for-business hours! I plan to visit on my next day off 1/20/10! Very exciting.
