Gallery: Phil’s ’83 Specialized Expedition

Here’s my ’83 Specialized Expedition I use both for daily commuting and the occasional southwest camp/tour. Although I live in the Phoenix area, I recently returned from a wonderful tour of the Eastern Sierras of California. This location is near the summit of Sonora Pass, off Highway 395 near Bridgeport, California. Tent, sleeping bag and camping goodies are several thousand feet below and awaiting my return. Notables include wood fenders, Nitto M-12 up front and Tubus rack in the rear, with Carradice bags. Most of the time, however, it’s rolling around the smooth streets of Chandler, Arizona, taking me to my classroom and running whatever errands I need between work and home. —Phil

Alan, We bikers need a “Rants and Raves” spot! I can’t help but bitch about the Lance Wannabes on
the trail, moreover, I can’t help but feel cheated that mountain bikes are not supposed to go on the horse trails! ( I almost never come across a freaki’n horse and I ride uumm, down there three days a week? WTF! beligerant Rat.) P. S. Let’s see the wannabes bring their spindly ass calfee’s and racer types down where I ride! I would love to see metal pretzel making.

Oh my. Everything about this bicycle is impeccable! The lugs. The slate-gray colour of the frame and the way it plays off the brown saddle and shellacked handlebars. The wooden fenders. The sturdy racks. The olive Carradice bags. Even the water bottle is the perfect match. An 80’s Specialized is a great bike to begin with, but I am really impressed with the owner’s choices. Thanks for posting the beautiful photos!

Looks like a well kept beauty. Also, looks like a beautiful area to tour. Thanks for the photos.

(I like to sign out with my location because who would know what Doug R. is talking about unless you are from this area. I am assuming he is talking about the American River BT. Often times people will describe some aspect about where they ride and I always wonder; “where is their area-where do they live?” )

Doug, Doug, Doug. Haven’t you heard – rants and raves are for the birds.
