Your post put me in mind of this post on the Lone Gunman.
“They found that, when people are choosing where to live, they consistently underestimate the pain of a long commute…According to the calculations of Frey and Stutzer, a person with a one-hour commute has to earn 40 percent more money to be as satisfied with life as someone who walks to the office.”
Thanks for the link. That study mirrors my experience, though I think it’s possible to beat the system by working out a multi-modal commute. Sounds like a post… :-)
That’s a long shadow! How early were you up? 5:45, or do you live quite far north??
I posted a link to my blog because I have a calculator up on there that shows how much of your free time is taken up by the commute. A cyclist’s longer commute can be a good thing…
I tried some Panda shots for the first time this morning. I was on the bike trail on the way to work between the Guy West Bridge and Old Sacramento (for those of you who know Sacramento). I did not crash though it is a bit tough juggling the camera. I was having so much fun I did not want to come on to work. I forgot my cable so i will have to wait till tonight to see the pictures large.

Hi Ben,
I’m usually on the road by 6:30. I’m in NorCal…
