John’s Photo Contest Entries

  1. My Old Trek — Taken in my front garden in Scotland. This is a homage to my faithful old Trek Navigator. We’ve done well over 12,400 miles together since I bought her in 2004. She’s a real workhorse of a bike taking everything in her stride whether rough or smooth, wet or dry, snow or ice. She may not be very elegant but she is guaranteed to get you to the end of your journey.
  2. Autumn Cycle — Taken one morning in a quiet lane just outside Troon, Scotland. Some people cycle to keep fit, some cycle simply to reach their destination but, it’s coming across places like this that make the effort worthwhile for me. My old Trek is taking a rest against the fence.
  3. Motley Crew — Taken at Eglington Country Park, Scotland. Not very many standard bikes here – two Bromptons, a tandem of unknown origin, a HP Velotechnik Street Machine, my Trek and, one bike I can’t make out in the background. Not an arty shot but I thought folk might like to see it as it is unusual to see such an assortment of bikes together.
  4. The Bike Race — A fun shot. Taken at the Falkirk Wheel, Scotland during the 30th anniversary of Sustrans (the UK’s biggest cycling charity). Two groups of cyclists set out, one from Glasgow and the other from Edinburgh. We met up at the Falkirk Wheel for celebrations and some spontaneous merriment (maybe that was the champagne). I don’t know who brought these little bikes but they were a great success in regressing adult men back to childhood.

Autumn cycle is amazing! Very dreamlike…

Thanks Rick. Someone else told me that he could almost smell the autumnal air as if he were standing in that lane.
