EcoVelo Photo Contest

In these winter doldrums I thought it would be fun to run a photo contest to brighten our moods a little. The rules are as follows:
- All are welcome — amateurs and pros alike.
- No more than four entries per person.
- The work must be your own.
- The photos must have some bike content.
- Your entries don’t have to be current photos; pick your favorites from your collection.
- If you can, please size your images to approximately 1000 pixels on the long side. If you can’t, send your full-size entries anyway.
- Send your entries as e-mail attachments to alan@barnardesign.com and please include your name (first name only is fine if you prefer to remain anonymous).
- And last, but not least, have fun!
The call for entries starts today and we’ll close it off on March 15. I’ll publish the photos on the blog as they come in, just like I’ve done for the EcoVelo Bike Gallery. Once the entry period is closed, we’ll pick a winner by jury and announce the winners here.
Prizes
- Planet Bike Blaze 1W & SuperFlash Light Set – Courtesy of Planet Bike
- Terracycle Accessory Mount – Courtesy of Terracycle
- Camdapter CamStrap – Courtesy of Camdapter
- 4pk ChicoBags Reusable Shopping Bags – Courtesy of TwoKnobbyTires.com
- Klunkerz DVD – Courtesy of Billy Savage
- Japanese Brass Bell – Courtesy of Rivendell
- Acorn Bags 2-Strap Roll Bag – Courtesy of EcoVelo
- 2/Alloy Water Bottle Cages – Courtesy of EcoVelo
Instead of assigning a specific prize to each winner, we’re going to allow the winners to choose their own prize in the order they placed. In other words, first place gets first pick from the list, second place gets second pick, etc., etc. That way, each person gets something they can use (hopefully).
I can’t thank the above companies enough for generously donating their products to liven up our competition. Please show your thanks by clicking on their links and keeping them in mind when you have a need for one of the products they offer. Good luck! —Alan & Michael
Please Note: The entries are really pouring in, so it may be up to a week before your photos are posted to the blog. Please keep checking back and thanks for your patience!

Hoorah! I love mixing bicycles and photography.
Question on the rules:
-Some of my photos have been photoshopped to correct the exposure (I use a little point-and-shoot Canon PowerShot). I would assume these entries are okay (?).
BUT
-I also have some photos that have been VERY (and obviously) photoshopped for ‘artistic’ purposes. Can I submit these? Or should I just stick to my other, lightly photoshopped photos?
Thanks!
@RJ
It’s all for fun RJ, so send anything you’d like! :-)
I wish I had enough money for a nice lens, then I’d be all over this. Hope this isn’t the last contest of this kind!
Nice lens schmens! Use a point and shoot if ya’ got it.
That’s like saying, “well, my bike doesn’t have any carbon fiber.. otherwise I would go for a ride.”
;p :D
Join the fun anyway!
You’re right RJ… I’ll see what I can do. I didn’t see any rules against Photoshop either (or in my case GiMP), maybe I’ll get crazy.
Fun Fun Fun!! I’m in! Better shine up the BatMoblile and get him handsome for his photo shoots!
That’s the spirit, Croupier! :)
Having been an art major– some of the assignments with the greatest “restrictions” had some of the best results. When your resources are limited– it just forces you to get more creative!
..I once had an assignment to draw two equally sized black circles inside of a plain white box. All I could change was the relationship between the two circles. The goal was to portray different emotions through these circles. Yowza, now those were some restrictions! ha ha.

Love the photo contest, love the blog. Keep it coming!
What a fun idea! I’ll have to get snapping this weekend.
Goodness, SO MANY photos, Alan! Exciting!
Do you have a tally of how many entries there have been?
Hey RJ,
We’re at around 100 entrants and counting. Assuming an average of 3 photos per entrant, we’re going to end up with well over 300 photos before we’re done. I thrilled, but it’s turning out to be a bit of work getting all the photos sized, cropped down for thumbnails, and posted… :-) The hardest part is going to be determining the prize winners – there are SO many great photos! I’ll be employing the help of a few friends, all of whom are experienced semi-pro/pro photographers.
Thanks for your interest, and also for the excellent photo you submitted.
Regards,
Alan

OK. Photo contest is getting old. Time for more new editorial content.
@jamesmallon
It’s true, there’s been a less than usual amount of editorial content posted over the past few weeks, but it’s there if you scroll back through the pages to find it. The reality is, I’ve received many more photos than expected (literally hundreds), so I haven’t had the time/energy to keep up my usual editorial pace while processing the large number of entries. The contest closes on the 15th and we’ll be back to normal then.
