Camdapter
Camdapter manufactures camcorder-style handstraps for digital SLR and point & shoot cameras. These clever straps enable secure, one-handed camera operation and work great for on-bike shooting. I recently picked up their “CamStrap” model and installed it on my Canon S3IS.
Installation was easy and the strap works as advertised, making Panda Portraits and other rolling shots easier and more secure. So far, I’ve limited my rolling, on-bike shots to my smaller S3IS, but I just may invest in a handstrap for my XSi and give it a go as well.

Looking at the website, it looks like something that should be able to reproduced for a fraction of the cost if you are the crafty type.
It definitely is a great idea.

They seem like a great deal to me considering the quality of workmanship and materials. I guess it depends upon how valuable your time is and how handy you are…
I’d love to see a good handlebar camera mount for doing stop motion (interval timer) movies. Does anyone know of one? I could make one myself, but I’d like something less hokey than a hose clamp contraption :)
Has anyone used a Joby Gorillapod on the handlebars with any success? I’m curious if it can withstand the shock movement.
Gorillapods do work on handlebars. I have used the small one with my Panasonic to shoot footage. I didn’t like the shaking and it seemed too harsh for the camera. What I found worked really well was to wrap the Gorillapod around the shoulder strap of my messenger pad, right at mid-chest level ! I got a great angle, the camera was stabilized against my chest and the GP held the wide strap perfectly.

alan, are you getting the camstrap or one of the prostraps for your XSi? Was wondering irf youve tried the camstrap on your XSi and what your thoughts on it are. Thanks.
@arch
I haven’t tried the CamStrap on the XSi, but I like it so much on my S3 that I do plan to get a ProStrap for my XSi.
