A Few Things I’m Thankful For

In regards to cycling, that is.

  • Healthy knees
  • Wide bike lanes
  • Crisp fall days
  • Drivers who give a wide berth
  • Tailwinds
  • Sunday mornings
  • Quiet backroads
  • And last, but not least, an amazing riding partner.

How about you? What are you thankful for?

Happy Thanksgiving! —Alan

    In regards to cycling:
    1) Knowledgeable bike shop owners/workers who actually enjoy helping their customers.
    2) My fellow friendly riders and cycling advocates in my neck-of-woods and around the world.
    3) BMX innovation (they’re beating the s**t out of their bikes so you don’t have to).
    4) Barack Obama
    5) EcoVelo!!!

Things I am grateful for in regard to cycling:

The beautiful places my bike takes me to.

The sense of freedom and adventure my bikes give me.

    Solitude.

The taste of good food after a long ride.

The health my bikes give me.

The internet, for allowing me to learn about and purchase loads of bikes!

People who have the passion to bring it all together and create websites like this one, bentrider, fixedgeargallery etc.

    That about covers it.

I forgot the Fixed Gear Gallery. Thanks to Dennis for bringing us everything from the completely logical to the purely insane… like this one: http://fixedgeargallery.com/2008/nov/4/WilliamCanup.htm

Chicks who compliment me on my bike.

  • jamesmallon says:

My bike for getting chicks to give me compliments.

  • jamesmallon says:

My wife for buying me a new bike in thanks for her engagement ring (a return gift is a mandatory Japanese custom). Do I not, indeed, have the coolest wife? That’s why I can smile at the compliments from the fairest-gendered, and ride home to my wife.

    I’m thankful for:

My Sunday morning cycling friends who ride to breakfast trying to burn off more calories than we eat

All of my past, present, and future bikes

My sister and brothers who gladly accept hand-me-down bikes so I can get new bikes

A perfect distance for commuting to work

    Windproof cycling briefs

The neighbor who found me unconscious in the road and called for help after I biked broadside into a German shepard

  • Mike says:

    I’m a little late but…

Cycling related, I am thankful short cranks (150 – 155 mm length). (Recum)Bent riders have been using them for years but never heard much about people using them on upright. Short cranks are now on two of my uprights, and they are the best thing that has happened to my knees.
