Gallery: Jose’s Dahon Cadenza

Here’s my Dahon Cadenza 2007. This bike has gone from being a folding bike to functioning as a small minivan.

The changes I’ve have made so far:

  • New Michelin tires for city riding
  • SKS mud guards
  • A rear rack (not shown in photo)
  • A child seat for my son

Upcoming changes:

  • Schmidt (SON) dynohub and lights
  • A front rack
  • A cruiser-type handlebar
  • And finally a Brooks saddle

I use it for the journey to work (around 40Km) and small competitions with friends on the weekend. Finally, I hope it will be an alternative to my usual car, or at least reflect the spirit I want my child to learn. —Jose

How do you thing the folding feature change the behavior or the “feel” of your bike? The Dahon website says wonders about it, but I’d appreciate an owner’s perspective. Is it fast to fold? Is it too big to be carried? I suppose it can’t be compared with a Brompton, but it should be easier to put into a small car’s trunk or to use in an elevator.

My Dahon - not to be confused with a minivan - folds quickly and easily, but it’s one of the 20 inch tire ones. I don’t do it enough to be natural with it, ’cause I don’t have a car to put it in… but it will come in handy this weekend when four of us will go in one car to a bike ride. Two bikes will go on the rack on the back of the car and two folders will go in the hatchback space. Then we’re Chicago-bound… and the gas divided four ways is much more digestible :)

There is not much difference between Brompton and Dahon, at closing time this clear. If so when we talk about 26 “or 20″, size 26 “resembles a suitcase and the standard rate of 20″ as a handbag.

I have a Cadenza and have been riding it for about a year now. I feel no difference between it and a non-folding bike. I am considering getting a smaller folding bike, though, as this full-size folding bike isn’t the most practical for multi-modal transit…
