Gallery: Josef’s HP Velo Grasshopper

I’ve followed your blog for quite some time now — very well done, as was the Recumbent Blog. Here’s my entry to the gallery; I have picked the one of my bikes that actually replaced the most miles driven by car.

The Grasshopper is my long commute bike. It fits into the large luggage area of a German ICE (high speed train), folds and unfolds quickly. Even though the folded bike makes for quite a large package, I have not yet found any difficulties in transporting it on the train. At times I have had it in and out of the trains several times a day, took it along on business trips but have not yet checked it in at the airport (that will follow later this year).

My standard routine with the Grasshopper is: Monday morning I leave the family home early to the train station by bike, get on the train to ride about 120 miles, then ride the bike to the office for another 10 miles. In the evening, I ride another 20 miles to my work home — for the rest of the week I commute to the office from my work home using my HP Speedmachine. On the day I go back to my family home, I switch back to the Grasshopper to go to work and later back to the train station to get on the train home. As you can see in the pictures, the Grasshopper is a good companion for my Saturday shopping as well. For the poor quality, please blame Apple — its iPhone camera can’t do any better.

Best, Josef Janning
