Gallery: Brompton S3L

This is my Brompton S3L. It’s a compact folding bike with 16″ wheels and a 3-speed Sturmey-Archer geared hub. It folds down in approximately 20-30 seconds to a clean and compact package that measures 22″x22″x10″. Owing to its compact fold, solid handling, and sheer ruggedness, there’s probably no better bike to handle the daily rigors of multi-modal commuting. To quote Andrew Ritchie, designer of the Brompton: “I’d never been a mad keen bikie. I’d always used one as a way to get about, but I’m not the kind of guy who goes in for races and the like. But I’d always thought how nice to have one that you could stick in your pocket, so to speak.” The Brompton is most definitely a bike you can “stick in your pocket”. —Alan
My Brompton was puchased at C.M. Wasson Co. in Palo Alto, CA.
